you are more prestigious when you work and make money for yourself and not for your boss
The 3 votes for SWE are trolling. Literally nobody thinks that SWE is the most prestigious of these three options. Itâs basically todayâs factory worker, but with better pay.
Dude wait until you're in investment banking making slides for 80 hours/week for the same pay ... unless you're a VP / MD which is all about sales skills, but not too many people get there I'll take being a swe all day over that shit
Well sure - me too. But given how difficult it is to become an IB, it has prestige. For people who care about that sort of thing.
investment banking is literal wage slavery
I agree with this statement, but If weâre talking about prestige IB isnât a job everyone can get
true, exit opportunities are unmatched if you can survive the 2-5 years of being a doormat while outperforming your peers you will make a lot of money
Not much prestige in small startup founder even if itâs âsuccessfulâ
A friend of mine sold a small startup. $75M. Owns a $5M house in New York with 6 acres of land.
depends on TC and/or NW
Whatâs the point of these posts ? Seriously. Are you going to leave your job and try a startup now ? Just because 70 people think thatâs the case.
Successful founders beat everyone hands-down, other guys are just cogs in machines
Lol why not just ask the question: what's better, being an owner or being a paid servant? Successful tech startup founder is miles ahead of anything else (depending on your definition of success)
Well.. working at Google is more prestigious than, say, owning a bakery. But being a general contractor is more prestigious than working at PayPal.
Based on prestige you gotta say investment banking bc itâs not a job that everyone can get. The other two options on the other hand are difficult to achieve but donât have the same barrier of entry that investment banking garners e.g. first hand networks , fraternity connections, family etc
those arenât skill barriers, theyâre luck barriers. why would they contribute to prestige?
I didnât mention skill once, I said those are barriers that make the job more prestigious than the other 2 options. You could attend hackathons till you find your founding team. Try to attend IB meetups to get your foot in the door without first hand connections.
