Reason #1 = People outside my culture trying to dictate my culture to me Reason #2 = Pointing out how you are different from everyone emboldens prejudice; qualifying yourself as XYZ removes the focus on your character as a person and puts the focus on âtribalismâ; for example, did so-and-so do ABC achievement/crime because they were part of XYZ label or because the strength of their character as an individual? Reason #3 = Better yet, outside of sniffing out systemic racism, donât refer to me as Latino either, refer to me as a person Reference, 2% of Latino people like LatinX https://www.nbcnews.com/think/amp/ncna1285916

Latin here too. Because IT DOESNT MATTER how ppl refer to us. Or anybody... What matters is what one feels and what effectively happens (i.e. actions) beyond language. Putting my own essence and self-esteem in somebody else's brain and language speaks worse about my level of maturity than abt "the world".
Why do Ivy League academic morons think they can simply rearrange the spanish language to benefit their current political narrative? Isnât that imperialism or colonialism or racism or whatever those idiots accuse run of the mill whites of ceaselessly? Spanish is a gendered language because LIFE is gendered. They canât change the way people talk any more than they can change the laws of biology. None of this idiocy will be around in 20 years. How many people will be disfigured and mutilated because of it? How many children will be sterilized before they can open an email account? Disgusting!
Im sure with all the woke tech getting back to actual business (by firing activist ) i think you'll see people getting back to real work
LatinX is a weird term. Not sure why... but it does give off "im too lazy to distinguish between South American cultures so let's use the variable X to group them as if they all have the same experiences and qualities"
Not just weird, itâs straight up gramatically incorrect. The terms latino and latina, and the plural form covering a group of any gender (latinos) already exist in that language.
Among Spanish speakers "Latino/a" is not a thing, people just say which country they're from or have roots from. Instead of asking "are you Latino?" Try asking, "where are you from?" An answer as "Colombia" o "Chile" will give you much more information and this person doesn't feel like you're confusing his culture with his neighbors'
I was born in the USA
I'm Latino myself or Hispanic or something. El espaĂąol es mi lengua materna.
I demand that LatinX people stop referring to me as a Gringo and use the more inclusive term GringX!
Haha
Go home plz
European Spanish here. Iâve been consistently told that Iâm not Hispanic since arriving in the US 15 years ago. Iâll let you figure that one out.
Even 100% Spaniards are considered hispanic as long as someone in their past lived in Mexico. None of it makes sense.
@Google see this video. I completely agree with you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQUgfAZW9vY&t=3s
People who use terms like Latinx are racist.
