Work From Hotel

Does anyone have any advice/experience with working from a hotel room while traveling? I'm thinking like a week at a time. Any specific things to consider? All advice is appreciated TC: 320k YOE: 2 #remotework #wfh

I would assume to call and check beforehand to make sure they have co-working space. It may not be convenient working from the hotel room all the time, unless it’s a multi-room suite with a designated office.

Just make sure in advance about the internet connection, and you’re good to go! Also pack up on cash, double rent will add up quickly, especially if you want work-grade comfort.

Many hotels have shit internet in my experience. Call ahead or get a good quality hotspot you can depend on.

I’ve always had no issues even using their free Wi-Fi. Some hotels offer upgraded Wi-Fi so you can check out the amenities on the site

Haha for a resort fee.

No issues with Zoom or anything?

I worked for a few weeks from a hotel between apartments. Generally they don't have a comfortable setup to sit for 8 hours. Wifi, or even hard internet connection leaves something to be desired. I'd try and stay at hotels but work at co-working spaces.

Did stay in hotels for 3 years (but had an office nearby the hotel). Have a backup internet connection, use phone but check the 4g coverage map before booking a room; sometimes the signal might be terrible due to structures and then you’re left to a crappy wifi. Use a VPN to protect yourself on the shared WiFi. Tables are usually crappy, not suitable for work which leaves you working in a bed or an uncomfortable chair. You also have to be careful when packing stuff up before travel to not forget cables and adapters (amplify this issue if you develop software for multiple devices).

Great advice about the backup internet, thanks.

if you have cute friends visiting you only see one of them at a given time at the hotel
