I have about 250k in my brokerage account. I have it invested in something that I believe is going to be profitable in the long run. Over the last 3 weeks my net worth went up about 3% and then back down 3%, leaving me about where I was at the start of the month. (went from 243k to 252k to 242k). No single day swings even hit 2%, none of my alerts I have set up in fidelity went off. And everything just says to sit and wait and the market will grow... The outlook is still good, but seeing my money basically evaporate was really depressing. How do you guys deal with the emotional roller coaster of the market affecting your net worth? Even the 0.25% that has happened today causes me stress, and it's in the positive direction. TC 250k NW 600k ( 350k in home equity and 250k in investments) YOE 8 Non SDE, I work in middle management and my job is basically Michael from the office.
Get used to bigger swings. Remember when the market tanks, your diversified index funds investments are on sale, and you should buy more.
Doesn’t bother me at all and if it does I just zoom out. $30-50k weekly swings haven’t been uncommon this year in my $2m-ish portfolio. If it’s negatively impacting your mental health and you’re invested for the long term you should delete the apps and limit checking them constantly.
Op is invested for long term. But distracted by daily fluctuations 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Not at all.
It will bothers you less over time. It's only truly stressful if you're expecting to need that money in the short term. If you're financially stable, and you know you can lock this away in there for a decade, then it won't bother you anymore. It bothered me up until I had a house and became financially stable with it
I don’t bother looking. I’m not invested only in one company, and instead in the broader market. I sleep well at night.
Deal with it by not checking everyday. Delete that app from your phone
I have similar NW and YOE and TC. My nw dropped about 15k today. I’ve been actively trading higher risk equities for a while so I’m very used to it.
I have around 4M in tech stocks, 100K swings per day have become more common recently. A few years back I used to stress when I see 10k movement, now I mostly don’t bother even with 100k swings
