Can anyone from the company shed some light on wlb and growth in the teams at FB AI infra? Don’t have an offer yet, just trying to evaluate. For SWE #facebook
I know at least a few who left A.I. Infra or had not pleasant experience. Aapo kyrola from distributed A.I. moved to Nvidia. Marat from caffe2 moved to Google. From caffe2 team, Ou jin moved to Ads (top recognized in Ads infra now), Wael moved to Youth team, and another guy moved to Google. Also, I forgot the name of their TPM who moved to Google as well. Most of them worked with the team less than 1-2 years. Reference: I was part of AI infra org. I switched the team, and then just recently moved to Google. Teams were in better shape under AML, directed by ML director - Hussein mehanna (who is now directing Google cloud AI). Now it’s under VP Bill jia - who speaks more than he understands about ML specially. * even if you consider, avoid the team lead by Kim hazelwood. She came from academia; good as public speaker, but awful in technical depth. She manages some team related to GPU/AI Infra Foundation. Also, Fbleaner (led by Aditya) and Caffe2 (led by Yangqing) should be avoided. Caffe2 has most churns out of all teams under AI infra. Distributed AI team under Fowzy is better - at least two folks shared so. Fowzy is not from ML background, but good as a manager overall compared to other alternatives.
How did bill jia, a former data center capacity planner with no ML background ascent to the position of VP AI infra? Unbelievable.
^ there is AI VP Jerome Pesenti - who came from IBM with relevant background as head of AI leading both FAIR and AML. But, as many know Bill - who was leading data center/capacity org without any ML expertise at all, now leading all teams under AI infra, including framework team Caffe2/ONNX, distributed training, fblearner platform, GPU/AI infra foundation etc.
They have been hitting me up as well since the past year. How's the work and the people over there? How big is AI infra?
AI infra is a newly formed group. Very prominent within the company. You'll see fast growth there. Recommended.
Thanks. Will reply to them then.
