Before getting into the details, I am merely stating some facts in this post based on my experience. Not intending to be a racist. There's a difference between calling out ethnic nepotism and being racist. I wish there was more diversity, that's all! Starting with an example, there's an Engineering Director in ML infra with all the EMs under him and most of his direct and extended reports (>90%) being Chinese. This is a clear case of ethnic nepotism. I feel terrible for the non-Chinese in such teams. I have been part of one such team in the past, and it was one of the worst experiences of my career. Any team at Meta with a new Chinese EM becomes 90% Chinese in a matter of months, especially if the skip is Chinese. Most of the critical orgs like GenAI, ML, integrity, etc. are Chinese majority. What is the purpose of banning tiktok citing it as Chinese origin if most of the critical functions in the homegrown alternative are effectively run by the Chinese? Meta apps are used in most of the countries in the world, except China. There should be a reasonable diversity in such critical areas! I consider it very unfair for our users across the world if the products they use everyday are heavily influenced by just one ethnicity. Zuck and DEI don't care about fixing this. I hope some journalist writes about this and Trump makes this an election issue. Not a Trump supporter, but at this point, he is the only one who can make Zuck fix this!

When it’s white, it’s racism. When it’s Asian, it’s DEI?
If it's Asian, we won't have this problem. Asia has 48 countries fyi! I wrote the the first paragraph only for people like you!
It's like Microsoft and Google has indian everywhere.
This is how it’s at most tech. Doesn’t matter if it’s India or China. Transition from white.
I have noticed it is much worse with Chinese teams because they use Mandarin at work, and the work culture differences are bigger, 996 becomes the norm and the expected minimum.
Dang, maybe why they prefer them to do this slug
This. This is the same case even in Azure AI. Entire AI org is filled with 90% Chinese. They openly write presentations in mandrin, all samples are chinese. My manager, skip his manager are all Chinese. Moreover, most high impactful projects go to them, whereas the low impactful projects go to diversity quota teams and they make sure no one is rising in the ranks apart from someone similar to them. I am not a racist, they work really hard. But being a non-Chinese its definitely difficult to collaborate or rise up the ranks in big tech!
Same thing at Snap
Why is this a problem? If you don’t like it, don’t join those teams.
Then most of the teams working on interesting areas would be out of reach!
I have heard that Chinese Meta interviewers basically erase the hiring bar for Chinese candidates.
explain why you need to 996 to grind because you are just brute forcing it rather than be smart about it
I work 30-35 hours per week cause my team deals only with the US market.
