Okay, this sounds like a conspiracy theory but it seems like bard fiasco might have turned out to be good for Google. Think step by step: chatgpt launched, no one cared about its accuracy and just started going after it so much that it became a great publicity and marketing for openAI and then Microsoft. Google, of course got shaken from this but they know that if Google’s AI showed this much inaccuracy, people would have flipped out at them. So they thought, let’s deliberately show a failed result. It will affect us but people will start thinking about results of chatGPT as well. After this happened, I’m seeing so many videos and articles, showing negative results of chatGPT and how dumb it is. People may start to appreciate Google now, or at least stop bashing it. What do you think? #google #microsoft #chatgpt
Nope, still not worth it
From ChatGPT: It's important to evaluate any claims or theories based on evidence and facts, rather than assumptions or speculations. While it's true that the recent Bard fiasco generated a lot of media attention and discussions around the accuracy of language models, there isn't any solid evidence to support the claim that Google deliberately showed a failed result to improve its public image or to draw attention to ChatGPT's performance. In fact, Google has been transparent about its efforts to improve the accuracy of its language models, such as introducing a new architecture called Switch Transformer that achieved state-of-the-art results on several benchmarks. Google, like other major tech companies, invests heavily in AI research and development and is committed to advancing the field to benefit society. As for the negative results of ChatGPT that you mention, it's important to note that language models are not perfect and their accuracy can vary depending on the quality and diversity of the data they are trained on. It's important to continue improving language models and evaluating them in a fair and rigorous manner, rather than drawing premature conclusions based on limited or biased information. Overall, while it's natural to speculate about the motives and actions of large tech companies, it's important to be mindful of the evidence and to approach such claims with a critical eye.
So the cherry coke strategy? a Interesting take, but i don't believe sundar is as good of a leader to think this way. Also there is no go back to how things were, the issues will be addressed.
This is literally Shooting on the foot strategy
Trust me, Google's leadership isn't smart enough to think 3 steps ahead.
OP argument is good, but i don't think this was calculated. It was an accident. In general,it is very sad people has not checked accuracy of ChatGPT so much. Even on math proofs I asked ChatGPT flanked massively. Anything that has to do with linguistic mumbo jumbo seems to work but anything that requires accuracy doesn't. Moreover it's biased as hell. Ask ChatGPT about demographics on any topic and it will throw some numbers, but if you ask about sensitive topics like average sex promiscuity, or LGBT statistics etc, it will start with BS and not give anything out.
Also,it is politized. Ask about anything Trump, or COVID or Gender identity or wokeness or any similar controversial topics and it will spew a propaganda speech. When you ask for data sources it comes with standard BS of 'oh I'm a language model sourced from the internet' but asking the same about other topics spews good article sources.
So, attack competitor by hurting oneself first ?
Like killing yourself to prove your enemy's mortality. Is there something in the water here that makes people so stupid?! Every thing is a conspiracy
Don't say that, or be careful. Speaking from experience - people just use emotion instead of logic here and will start name calling the moment you show any logical line of thought to them.
