This summer my SO and I will be moving to one of the following locations. Help us decide. We currently live in a LCOL area with a household TC around $200k. If we move to HCOL area, our TC becomes $280k due to comp adjustments. We aren't city people and would like a home one small plot of land. Not afraid of a 30-40 minute commute. We'd also like to purchase a home and not rent. Thoughts? Frankfurt, KY San Antonio, TX Santa Fe, NM Raleigh, NC Baltimore, MD Tumwater, WA Phoenix, AR Boise, ID Anchorage, AL Denver, CO Fort Collins, CO Seattle, WA Portland, OR San Leandro, CA Richmond, CA San Diego, CA Los Angeles, CA Riverside, CA
Raleigh! Low property tax, moderate weather year around, great schools, Reach Triangle Park is a mini tech hub with great colleges like Duke just minutes away.
Do you realize where and what Richmond and San Leandro CA are? It's a city, surrounded by other cities, and water.
Is San Diego really worth looking at? The home prices seemed outrageous.
If you want a hobby farm type setup, Portland metropolitan exurbs top this list. I’m going to be turned into soil when I die here. Poke around the edges on redfin, Oregon City is a good starting point, as is that entire quadrant of the greater metro.
Seattle Eastside (Bellevue, Kirkland, Bothell) Less property tax, No state income tax and close to every amenity
Just wondering why Chicago is not on your list ? Is it because of the weather ?
Chicago is an option we were given but don't want to pursue as we are not "city" people. Weather's not an issue as we currently live in Columbus.
Based on your previous comments about housing affordability in Seattle, I think we are in the same boat. Can I DM you to discuss further ?
Please do update here if you decide or get any new info. I’m thinking about moving from HCOL to MCOL with better housing scene. Very confused in where to go. Wonder how is chicago and its suburbs.. based on the above comments
Raleigh 100%, but I would suggest checking out Chapel Hill or even north Chatham County for more land/safety/good schools.
Seems like no one location stands above the rest. Would love to hear from folks that live in these locations.
