Expecting an offer soon. How is the the company doing? Saw some blind posts about possible layoffs coming next month. Do you guys like working there? Pros, cons? 😬 TC: 170k #expedia
Don't work there but I had a position close because it wasn't needed anymore. As in, budget cut presumably. This was <2 months ago.
Thanks for the input
There have been some significant hiring freezes/slow-downs from Q3 2022 until now-ish.
Company has extremely good wlb, comp issues certainly but stable atleast for now
Thanks!
Layoffs or not no one knows. There aren’t any news or talks around that internally that we common folks know of. Plus one to things others have mentioned.
Good to know. Never trust blindly the Blind folks 😅
It is the best place if you don’t get fomo due to high TCs at other places. Expedia has the best work life balance. Good overall business. No strict performance reviews. No PIP at all due to once in a while performance issue. Managers are very understanding that devs are humans.
Thanks!
I feel that with recession looming travel industry in general is not a good place to be. Expedia is looking to do RTO as much as possible. If you see previous blind posts assure you will see PIP ones in Expedia too. Bottomline If you have other offers consider them over Expedia
RTO is inescapable if it really works across the industry. If not, it is not a concern to begin with. Expedia RTO stance is just a recommendation and it is not an issue if you talk to your manager and both agree that you should be able to wfh. Also PiP posts were mostly unclear. As far as I know, PiP is only the last option when there is absolutely no way to address the performance issues. PIP is not bad actually, it is the mandatory curve fitting that is bad
True that about RTO. But does it really make sense to work in travel industry for below market comp and uncertainty about layoffs when in general entire market is cost cutting and bracing for recession ?
Only issue I really have is the comp, reorgs, and mediocre travel bennies. Other than that I think the company and the product is pretty awesome.
Leadership there is known to be merciless with RIF in downturn and they don’t pay. Danger zone for next year.
50% cut next month. Brace for impact !!!
Got laid off from Microsoft ? 😄
Getting laid off from MS is great like min 2 months severance. We’ve got the big 🥜 not like the peasant 🥜 over there.
How well does expedia pay? Levels.fyi numbers are way low compared to FAANGULA
Base is comparable, no bonus anymore and equity is way below FAANGx. Though I think FAANGx will regress over the next decade so maybe the gap starts to narrow
Good leadership, they've set themselves on a great path to be leaders in the industry., Good culture, good WLB. Beautiful offices. Pretty straightforward paths for promotion. Depending on your role and team it can certainly feel less cutting edge than top tech if that's a concern for you. Comp is below top tier too. They've eliminated bonuses by rolling it into base pay a couple years ago, so base is pretty competitive. They are conservative with equity, so comp as a whole is lower. I'd be surprised if they do any substantial layoffs, they've been running pretty efficiently since their CEO turn-over and layoffs at the beginning of the pandemic.
Nice! Thank you for the detailed feedback
You said straight forward path to promo, what’s that look like? Can I DM? (FYI, I’m a newbee)
