Hi guys, I've been interviewing since jan 2019. In this time, I've interviewed with 9 companies for 11 product management roles and I have lost out on all of them. 2019: Walmart - rejected after final round. Facebook- rejected after sense and execution rounds. Compass - rejected after final round Expedia - rejected after final round with VP who said that i dont have domain experience. Google - rejected after product sense interview. Uber -rejected after product sense and execution. 2020: Facebook- rejected after final round. Google -rejected after product execution interview. Microsoft- rejected after final round for not having domain experience Instacart - rejected after final round. Convoy- rejected after initial screen for not having domain experience I am interviewing with chewy and in my final 2 rounds which they requested additionally after the final round... Guys- I think I need help. Getting a job should not be so difficult.. I feel like I have a grasp on the product sense and execution part, but I'm not sure where I am going wrong with thr final rounds... The lack of feedback and the obscure questions which do not have the right answer make it very difficult to prepare. I spend weeks preparing for each interview and it is very draining. I have no energy left and very depressed about it. Do you have any suggestions? Are there peer practice groups that I can talk to, to refine my interviewing skills? #pm #product #productmanager
Firstly, getting rejected 11 times in 2 years is kinda normal. PM has fewer openings than swe so it’s comparably harder to get through. Many PMs I know spent years trying to land a better role, or stuck in the same role. Your exp with rejection is very very common. And because of the nature of the role, PM hiring tends to depend on connections. Many interesting openings are pre-filled with known connections before it’s even advertised. You should concentrate on building connections. Lastly, there are training courses, ie Rocketblocks but mainly for MBA grads, because as you have more yoe, it’s all about your experience and connections.

Try Lewis Lin's slack group for mocks
Yes highly recommend mock interviews, specially with the product sense and execution interview you need to be able to engage the interviewer about your choices, ability to prioritize based on limited information and critically evaluate your own solutions. All this you can only get from mock interview sessions, videos and books can only take you so far
