Friendly reminder to Microsoft Managers since Rewards & Calibration conversations are happening. Stand up for your loyal employees and put a stop to weak leadership penalizing top talent so they can reward their friends! Remember someone needs to get the ZERO and it won’t be their drinking buddies or besties from Ready!
Seems like you've not been performing well and want to blame others for it
Your management/PM castoffs aren’t performing well, no. But they have a nasty, pernicious habit of pulling their cronies over.
Not the case - but forced to watch other managers hand out unjust Zeros because they were scared to stand up and represent their employees!
Instead of complaining about how the game is unfair, maybe you should learn how to play it better.
So I could take two meanings: 1. The Zero is genuinely dead weight, but doesn’t know it. The first time he finds out he’s not toeing the line is in the review meeting. 2. The zero isn’t a true zero, but just assigned such because the manager needs to fit the stack rank curve. #1 is this current generation of shit, conflict avoidant managers. They love healing praise but can’t coach or give direct feedback. Aeons afk when the earth cooled and I started in industry I knew day to day how I was doing—and believe me when I wasn’t cutting it I knew to fix it. #2 is just the reason stack ranking sucks. Nothing else really works at scale, but it’s absolute shit.
I've never actually experienced that happening. Not that it never does, but it is extremely rare.
right, 95% of the whining is low performers in denial For the most part managers want to do rewards correctly and retain talent on their team. How do people even buy into the argument management wants to penalize performance? How is that in their interest? If their team does better, THEY get more rewards and dont have to constantly make excuses for why everything is shit. Eventually, someone is answering to someone who cares about results. Its not just mangers rewarding buddies all the way up to Satya.
Perhaps I should release the recordings to suppress the non-believers
Every place has bad managers. Just a fact we have to deal with. Best thing to do is just get out and either find anther team at Microsoft with a better manager or get job else where. Complaining on here might temporarily make you feel better but won't change a thing.
Isn’t that literally the definition of MSFT middle management? B’s hiring C’s, then leaving for Amazon when they’re found out?
HR needs to be present and expose these Weak managers much earlier on. Too many good people screwed in the interim.
Often HR is mediocre and part of the game as passive supporters or the information they receive is controlled by the managers. They look down on those who raise issues and help perpetuate the problem and embolden the insecure managers.
