Hi, I was pip'ed at Amazon as an SDE-1 after about 2 years for taking a 20day leave as I was going through some personal issues. My manager eventually got me out though I completed all my tasks and overall resolved 30tickets more than everyone else on the team. I feel my confidence has been sapped during that one month. Now my question is I'm looking for a new job and currently on an H1-B and have another 45days left to be employed. I think I'm doing my interviews wrong. When I'm being asked why I'm leaving Amazon - I'm telling that my job got terminated. Am I supposed to be disclosing that information? At Spotify and a few other startups, I was told the interview went well and if I'm going to get a reject it would be because of my job termination, and so did I get rejected. Can someone please throw light on this - Should I be disclosing the information or not about my job being terminated or should i just let them know that I want to work in a different capacity - I'm planning to switch to a Data Engineer role. Also, if I could be referred at any of your companies, please let me know. Thank you. Have a wonderful day ahead! #workvisa #h1b #referral #pip If asked why I am leaving Amazon, what should I answer?
What school did you go to ?
Be transparent not naked
Yeah just say amazon sucks, that's true
You can just say looking for a change, But it is so cruel that they put you in pip just for taking leave
No, don’t mention that. It’s better to just say that you left company since it wasn’t what you expected. Reach out for a referral to Workday.
I'm in the same situation as you just that I haven't been let go yet. I have ~30 more days and struggling to pass interviews. Wish you the best
Cite wlb issue, 12 hours a day, leaving to focus on finding a job 100% cause I’ve very much decided to go to another place
I think this is one of the plausible statement you can make. People who told you to be transparent don't mean that you straight out tell them you got terminated, just be clever about it. In the end you need to get a job, so think only about the kind of answers you should give in an interview to get that job.
You didn't go through dev plan?
I know the pain. On the same boat- will be judged next week for my PIP work. I know this is push out queue, so no hopes. If I am let go, I will not tell the interviewers about PIP at all. I will just say that I left coz it was a burn out and no WLB. Also if you are applying to any other city, cite that you want to relocate to that city because of family/friends etc. All the best! I know where ever you go, you will be valued more and will be happier than Amazon.
It's sad that there are more of us. Will always feel PTSD from this until I recover and have a few good years under me :/
For legal reasons (they don’t want a lawsuit or investigations) companies will *not* disclose why someone left their position. Just say it wasn’t a match and you’re looking for an improvement in WLB, less bureaucracy, more of a challenge, etc.
+1
No need to tell another company about the PIP. They will never know. Briefly tell them that you're looking for a change or any other bullshit people make up.
