Question for HR / managers

Before Covid-19 , our manager rarely take us for company paid lunch, happy hour or any fun outing. But my first employer used to take us for GoCart, arcade games, mini golf etc fun activities. They all are big companies. Some do some don’t. Why? Is it lack of budget from the top management? Or Are managers not interested to take his team out for activities due to various organizing hassle like applying, approving budget, input all the expenses into SAP Concur like app etc? Do companies usually have yearly budget for EACH team for outing? How does it work? Paid Team outing is important for team building and good office culture.

Typically companies have fixed morale budget per year per employee assuming you are not in sales. All team/org/company events get funded from this budget. At problematic times for the company this is first budget that gets cut. So it can be either your company doesn't have enough budget to have frequent events or your manager is just lazy and doesn't care. Any unused budget for the year is wasted and goes back to the company.

Thanks for the info. Is it HR who manages those funds for company events and outing ? If not, can you please tell me the name of the dept responsible for organizing events ?

Completely company dependent. i.e. I control my teams budget for this, but at previous company I didn't.
