I have offers from both ScaleAI and OpenAI offer, which one I should take. OpenAI running reference checks, currently negotiating with ScaleAI, no numbers yet from either of them. They have "AI" in both of them, both are in SF, both are start ups with 9-9-6 culture, wondering which one I should take ? To me, "Scale" sounds much better then "Open" :) Current TC: 550K YOE: 10 #scaleai #openai
What is your OpenAI offer ?
For what itās worth, had a friend who started on a 3-month contract with Scale.ai and was offered full-time but refused after seeing how the sausage was made. Both companies operate at different points of the AI stack. Scale focuses on AI ops and training data hygiene. They are very locked down security-wise so impact and progress are likely to be slow due to the nature of sensitive client data and employing low-cost resources at scale to review and correct training data. OpenAI, canāt speak directly to what itās like to work there but is definitely higher prestige.
Didnāt know ScaleAI also makes sausage, good diversification
Also expecting ScaleAI offer as general SWE but yeah worrying about the 996 and not sure about upside at this point.
Neither. Move within G closer to ML if youāre interested. OAI is at the peak of moat and hired 100+ E7+ from Meta (and prob Google) it will be tough wake up call when they realize that there is not that much things to do. Interviewed at OAI but decided to not go forward due to this. Literally 5/8 people I was talking to were from FB. They donāt have PSC (yet). Canāt comment on ScaleAI but I suspect they are also riding the wave now.
Scale AI's CEO is a young second generation mainland Chinese. Expecting 996 with no empathy from management. Go to OpenAI.
MEI over DEI any day.
Envy u. For how many months did u prepare for those interviews?
2 months, 0 LC
Wouldn't the boomerang look good if it sucked after a year? Also OP, disclose the benefits provided by each.
For how many months did u prepare for?
2 months, YMMV. Neither of them ask LC type questions, so doing 0 LC really helped.
Are you a ML engineer? Or general SWE
