If there is a candidate who excelled in LeetCode problems: sliding window max, convex hull, he just spitted out algorithms after algorithms, like he is a Xerox machine. But when I asked him to write a function to pick a random item given an array of items, he could not even write it correctly. The item can be one off and it'd pull out an undefined item and he tried for 5 minutes and couldn't find the problem. So should we hire him? TC: 390k #interview #candidates
I like how āhe / she is young and good lookingā is a detail in the poll and not talked about in the description
Donāt need to because young and good looking is important in any hiring decision
I realised this long back. In America, looks sell. Trust me. If you look sharp you tend to crack most interviews ( provided youve prepped as well) and people tend to take you seriously. There are many atrticles about it on the internet
Iāll take his spot if youāve got room for a new grad lol
It depends on him to be honest. If heās proficient in learning and using algorithms, and he ACTUALLY knows how the algos work and how someone couldāve come up with the algos themselves, then hire him. I personally think if you can come up algos that are complex, likely then you can learn how to be an adequate SWE. If you can kinda tell that heās just memorized algos, then I wouldnāt hire him.
You asked a convex hull problem?!
no kidding. I went into an interview before. The interviewer asked me to write the algorithm for convex hull. I told him I know of this problem but never studied it. He then asked me to invent the algorithm right at the spot. After 35 minutes of struggle, I had a correct solution, and he told me so. And then, he told me that my answer is not optimum and can I make it optimum.
Asking convex hull problems means you have a small penis
May be he just didn't practice any problems with random. I could solve many problems but was not very good at random, had to practice this for a bit before I got comfortable.
If youāre making a hire/no-hire decision based on a blind poll, maybe you shouldnāt be on the interview panelš¤·š»āāļø

I am asking it for fun. In term of making the decision, remember I live in the emperor country and the emperor state
If he/she can understands convex hull, slidin window and other basics, he can return random number too. May be they just forget the inbuilt library or under pressure. Understanding these algos required effort, give them a chance.
Tough call. How good looking are we talking here? Pics?

Yes, if you aren't hiring him for a critical or experienced role. If he is a new hire with a willingness to learn n adapt, has shown evidence of needed capabilities and can be coached where gaps exist. Perfect for intern hires
asking him sliding window max and convex hull... doesn't look like it is an intern
See you have your answer
