winery name: Testarossa Winery -tasting experience: 9/10, for bay area folks, if ur a fan of locally produced pinots/chardonnay sourced from sta lucia highlands, this is a nice place to spend saturday afternoon with friends. this winery is situated on the hills right behind downtown los gatos, easily accessible to those in the south bay. this is a recurring theme but the owners were both SWE living in Sunnyvale & started winemaking as a hobby and fell in love with the wine biz and left their tech jobs (nice exit). their winery is on a historic site, built in 1888, looks like an old stone, rustic italian house. surrounding grounds is lush/well maintained w/ plenty of picnic benches to lounge with friends. tasting is very casual and fun to explore the property. there is a front toll booth/gate keeper to manage the incoming guests/reservation, probably the only downside since it felt a bit like the entry to an amusement parkβ¦theres usually live music on thurs, which adds to the ambiance & helps kick off the wknd. -tasting $: $25 for their indoor tasting of 5 vineyards for chardonnay/pinots, $45 for their reserve tasting. -reservations: Yes, via tock, usually ok to book 1-2 days prior to visiting, ive also gone w/o a reservation, just requires a slight wait. -membership: 5/10, for a smaller winery, their membership is a bit confusing but for their single vineyard series: 2/4/6/9/12 bottles per release, 9(!) releases per year. comes out to $900 minimum annual spend. or their portfolio series: 6/12/18 allocation with 3 releases also about $900 minimum spend. discounts range from 15-30%, eligible for 30% when purchasing half a case (6 bottles) -revisit: Yes, due to close proximity to south bay/peninsula for napa-like ambiance and great pinot noirs from sta lucia highlands.
