How about consider to apply for MLE job? It is less competitive than getting a DS job.
I am into core SAP techno functional ..even though my BG is CSE .. working in SAP is different from Other SWE jobs.. it’s more process oriented and has very restrictive application language Which is ABAP
I believe within SAP, there is a Fellowship Program, which you can do a 6-month tour with. Might worth to consider it.
Why do you want to switch to data science?
Because I like DS n also good at stats, business processes and python.Worked on a DS project which gave me a feeling that I can be a good DS
Non tech and non CS folks populate the DS job market. More difficult to get a DS job than a SWE job. Also you may have to start as entry level DS.
