Should it charge the painting fee from deposit? Asking as I’m moving out from my apartment after 1 year lease, the apartment charged $300 for a full repaint. It is 2/3 of the full price of painting as we only stay 1year and they are supposed to repaint every 3 years. UPDATE: found plenty of real cases of wear and tear versus damages. Here are bunch of pictures - https://tinyurl.com/57p4e5et for people who are in similar situations. Easy to understand the definition by these real examples. #housing State: CA
Very normal
I would charge them for painting the trim and doors beige. It will impact showability.
OP is the tenant, not the landlord. They are being charged for the damage.
Just paint it yourself it takes 30 minutes
☝️ This is the trick.
This.
After a full year, they are not supposed to charge paint wear and tear. If it was 6 months, you would oay 50%. Call housing authority of your County. Learn couple keywords to refer. And send a letter referring to Housing authority and law. They will not try to charge you.
Another look at the pictures. One of them looks like a damage more than a discoloration. What was there ?
Are you referring to second pic? It was my try of repainting the wall but found out the color didn’t match. Others are the discoloration(or fade?) of a TV stand there.
How on earth is that normal? What did you do to that wall?? I’ve lived in apartments for years and left them in better shape. And I am a slob.
Almost certainly normal wear and tear by the legal definition if you want to fight it, but you can’t seriously think it’s okay to leave the wall like that and think your landlord and the next tenant are okay with it? It has to be painted, and $300 for painting is nothing. Paint is expensive, labor is expensive. I would charge more honestly.
will anyone think of the poor landlord
If I was the next tenant, I absolutely wouldn’t be okay with that, but that’s normal wear and tear by a tenant who has lived there for a year. This isn’t an airBNB. The landlord has to expect to touch up paint in between tenants.
Desi moving out of apartment and management threatening to hold off deposit! 😂
This is not normal. It's right they charged you. If were the landlord then I would have charged more. $300 doesn't fix this in CA
Yeah
Regular wear and tear.
Personal opinion I guess. We still haven’t ever made this level of “wear and tear”, so I don’t consider it normal. Looks like reckless behaviour from tenant.
That is a bit extreme after one year.
