Received verbal offer from fidelity investments as senior engineer. I could just decline and then see next year. I have heard rumors there will be more rounds of layoffs at msft in January and then later. Thinking if jumping on h1b makes sense right now with recession and rifs. Don't have i140 perm approved yet. Current tc 210K Redmond New TC 150K Raleigh/Dallas
What makes you think there won’t be layoffs in Fidelity?
Fidelity rarely has layoffs, we double down on employee when markets crash or slow down the hiring!
Consengg do you think you will be hiring next year?
don’t change, Microsoft is better.

Job security is a myth...unless you work for govt
Stay at Microsoft
Fidelity is actually hiring right now. Looks like they lost quite a bit of talent in the past couple years and the internal mobility is still on. Their pay is less competitive, so whenever people can find something better, they can leave easily. Having said that, this also allows them to not have many layoffs if any. But Microsoft is a better paying job security as anything out there.
The only reasons to work at fidelity are new grads getting experience and old people who want the security and benefits. It really depends on if you heard any layoff rumors inside ms
Fidelity has super high security I’ve heard. That’s tough because of visa stuff.
Fidelity is low bar and the interview process is short. You can always wait when the layoff is more imminent, even when you know you are on the chopping clock, because you can definitely get into Fidelity within 60 days
On the other hand, 150k in Raleigh/Dallas probably goes as far as 210 in Seattle and just have a peace of mind
Does Fidelity sponsor green card?
