We often emphasize onboarding a new hire, but preboarding, which starts once a new hire accepts an offer, can be even more important. Here's what I do for preboarding. I created a Google Doc to share with new hires, which includes: - An explanation of when and who will contact them regarding equipment and accounts like the company email. - An example of a new hire introduction and a request for their info and photo, which I’ll share on their first day. - A description of how to get familiar with our product. - A list of technologies their team uses in case they want to get a head start. This helps answer a lot of questions they might have and makes them feel more secure. If there’s a long gap between offer acceptance and the first day, I offer a virtual meeting or an in-person coffee break. I also prepare their onboarding documents during the preboarding period. What do you do for preboarding? Any tips?
