In terms of education, competency, etc.
I think neither is anywhere near as important as teachers.
The pay is only competitive if you’re not comparing against FAANG or FAANG-adjacent
Yea shows how inflated the tech industry is compared to other industries
I watched the Fighter (2024) on Netflix recently and I think those pilots might be more prestigious than either of the two options listed here.
A random fighter pilot is far more competent than a random SWE. The pilot has received extensive training, including in leadership and in navigating interpersonal relationships, and they’re almost assuredly far more confident in their own abilities I’ve worked with both. Pilots can be quite cocky, but it’s often earned
SWE < USAF Pilot < Naval Aviator
Bro you really think pale skinny nerd in an office all day and sometimes goes on a hike is as cool as a fighter jet pilot??? I mean know blind is delusional, but come on now Tom cruise makes movies about being a fighter jet pilot instead of a tech worker for a reason lmao
Depends on what type of pilot.
They can't switch jobs for higher TC.
Only SWEs think SWEs are important.
I am an swe, I would vote for Pilot any given day. It's not about competency (they are very competent), it's the opportunity - a fighter pilot is a rare lifetime opportunity - incomparable.
