What is wrong with this company? https://nltimes.nl/2022/02/10/bookingcom-cut-thousands-workers-new-reorganization
Previous replies are incredibly uninformed. Booking gets the plurality of their traffic from direct. Google seo/sem/hotel ads don’t matter as much to them. They’ve invested heavily in chat bots and other tools that reduce the need for customer service reps (where all the layoffs are)
from a friend seo represent around around 20% of the traffic
Didn’t even know there is one layoff
It's not even because booking was losing money they made 8 billion last year despite the pandemic but the CEO Glenn Fogel and the board of directors are determined to squeeze every last penny from this company. They got hundreds of millions of Euros from the Dutch government and went and spent it on bonuses for executives and laid off around 5000 people the same year. This is the ugly face of corporate America.
I think Booking, Peloton, Homie and several others are "the canary in the coal mine" ... layoffs are just starting.
Of course, Booking repaid the money it got from the government.
It has become yet another American corporation. That's what happened.
The company just give us hard time, in one day you lose your job with 6-month notice and immediate change on the contract. remaining colleagues in the internal channel are in a panic mode to predict which role will be next. if you are joining booking soon try to reconsider it, unless you are on the tech side you may be safe.
This isn't lay offs. They sold legal entities which employ people. Those people will continue to work for another company. Nobody is being laid off
It’s an acquisition the CS department from Majorel.
Their contracts are not guaranteed just given 6 months of guaranteed pay.
Untrue. All CS employees have bee told that conditions are kept for as long as those people want to work for majorel. This 6 months thing is just shit communication from the company as expected
Will there be more coming in the future? . Heard some tech and security roles are going full outsourcing.
Yes Infosys is providing tech and security support out of Romania.
Google turned off the spigot

New saying Booking.com only successful because of SEO, without search traffic its failing. Not true, am surprised it took almost 2 yrs from covid to start bleeding. Another note: its been 2 yrs from covid holy shit
