The tech job market is dead
Hi everyone, I got a new grad SDE1 offer for Expedia Group in Chicago. My base is 98k. My sign-on is 18k. My RSU is 40k. I don't really wanna work for Expedia so I'm interviewing elsewhere but yeah, are they low-balling me? #software #swe #engineering #expedia #newgrad #sde1
Seems decent for new grad.
108k in Chicago is about 120k in Seattle.
Not true, moved from Chicago to Seattle, Illinois has state tax, Seattle rents are higher, normalize the two, it’s about the same! I save more in Seattle
True COL aside, our pay scales are not based on cost of living, they are based on relative demand in the market, so you get paid more in Seattle or bay area.
1. If you’re a new grad, you should be getting SDE2 based on current mappings 2. Keeping aside Sign on, your TC is 108k for LCOL, seems reasonable for sde1 not for 2. 3. Run away and find something else
SDE-2 for new grad??? Highly doubt it!
@Cerner they changed the way roles are mapped. Anyone coming from university is automatically SDE 2. Don’t ask why, the reasons are fucking stupid.
