I would like to know what would be the usual salary these guys would offer. Also, what is a good salary to start if I will be working in Tokyo at least I can negotiate a better offer. Current status: 2nd interview done. If successful I will be relocating with my wife, we don't have kids yet. #uxdesigner #userexperience
Age: 33 YoE: 13 I currently work in one of the top airline organization in the world (at least that's what they say lol) here in the middleeast and my salary don't get taxed. My TC is around 450K JPY net per month. Unfortuntately, my salary here does not fit the current market industry rate as I have new colleagues who are getting way more. Will they give me a competitive offer with the above status? I am seeing negative feedback with Rakuten in terms of salary but I can see some are paid decent. Thanks for replying.
Definitely start the negotiations higher than the 450 you're earning now. You might or might not get it, and if you let Rakuten dictate the terms, you'll be stuck with a typical low Japanese salary. Shoot higher! Japan is an amazing place to live for a few years - it gets tougher if it's not temporary. Are you Middle Eastern? Which country? There is a big Persian community near me.
Thanks for the advice. I will take note on that. Are you in Japan? Do you work for Rakuten? I'm from the Philippines.
Bad news, got rejection letter today. A bit shocking actually did not expect this everything was flying smooth. I was actually worried when the 2nd interview was held in a web conference call via Rakuten India HQ. The interviewers was full of pride and ego but I did try to answer their questions well. I feel like these guys also don't really know what is UX and UI. I still have other applications in Japan, let's see.
The Japanese company is totally random in the interview process. Just move on. I mean the interview is random overall
Wow, I thought you'd get hired if only because people are quitting all the time :) What other companies are you applying to in Japan? Maybe I can offer some insight on them. Yes, I'm at the Rakuten Tokyo HQ. We're really packed together in this building and, coronavirus or not, I'm looking forward to when they split us up among three or four buildings this summer. Also the main office is in a really inconvenient part of Tokyo.
I had a good interview experience with the first interview with Rakuten Tokyo HQ where I was able to talk to the DSAID team, the Manager and my supposed to be teammate in UX/UI. Everyone was on the same page and were happy. No replies yet with Google and Indeed, then I had one recruitment interview done with Gengo.
Oh shit, I'm interviewing for this role right now. Work for the largest airline in the world. I just had my 4th and final interview. Curious what they're looking for from folks.
Still frustrated until now, got rejected after Rakuten India HQ interview, not even sure why the interview with these guys
Op, current workplace
Rakuten pays garbage. Be careful op
Rakuten is well known to be a terrible place to work. They are also known for promising a salary (which is already low by international and Japanese standards) then lowering the pay after a few months. The average tenure is around a year. In order to get the job you have to read the founder's book and write an essay on it. For all the complaints Amazon has, Rakuten makes them look like paradise. Consider not being hired there as having dodged a bullet.
As a Rakutenian looking to get into Amazon, this is reassuring to hear. I had been fearing that even if Amazon accepted me, I might be in an even worse environment. I want to get out of Rakuten so badly that is probably accept a salary even lower than Rakuten pays. Amazon is probably aware of Rakuten's pay scale, because the job I'm applying for had a salary in the description and it _just happened to be_ within 2000 yen per month of what I get now.
Age and YoE? This is Japan; these things are all-important. For perspective, new grads make 300k JPY to start.
Per month?
Yes, per month.
